In a year of shrinking civic space and global challenges, ACT Alliance EU has remained steadfast in defending rights-based policies, people-centred development, principled humanitarian aid, and International Humanitarian Law. We outline how we navigated these complexities in our Annual Report 2024.
This annual report provides a detailed overview of our activities, achievements, and commitments over the year. It reflects our dedication to responsibility and accountability as an international actor and development partner.
In 2024, maintaining civic space and advocating for inclusive, equitable policies addressing the needs of communities most affected by crises and inequalities remained essential pillars of our work.
We participated in pivotal events, organised workshops, and advocated for critical issues, amplifying our members’ voices within the EU and aligning efforts with the global ACT Alliance.
Highlights from 2024
Notable highlights in 2024 include:
- Civil Society Engagement Mechanism: In collaboration with the global ACT Alliance we worked jointly with European and African CSOs to advance priorities under the AU-EU partnership.
- Gender Justice: The event on Gender Justice at our 2024 General Assembly kicked off fruitful exchanges and collaboration with DG INTPA and the EEAS
- Africa-EU CS platform: We played a central role in establishing an autonomous Africa-EU CS platform. It aims to ensure civil society’s voice remains central in shaping the partnership’s policies, bridging gaps between civil society and AU and EU institutions, and advocating for a truly people-centred partnership
- Engagement with EU Stakeholders: From meetings with political groups to dialogues with directorates, ACT Alliance EU remained engaged with EU stakeholders on crucial issues such as financial and compliance risk sharing, and the humanitarian-development-peace nexus.
- Communications: Our communications work grew, using blogs and social media to expand our reach, amplify the voices we represent, and ensure our perspectives are included in key discussions shaping humanitarian and development policies.
- Post election analysis: We provided in-depth analyses of EU political direction, shaping collective reflection on priorities for member and network-wide engagements with policy makers.
- Commissioner hearings: Our key advocacy messages on Global Gateway, principled humanitarian aid, and the EU’s role in upholding IHL were raised by MEPs during Commissioner hearings
- Collaboration with FBOs: Through collaborations with faith-based organisations, we amplified the role of local faith actors in sustaining social cohesion during crises and advocating for continued EU support in fragile contexts
Conclusion
As we reflect on the achievements of 2024, we are inspired by the collective efforts and unwavering commitment of our team, partners, and stakeholders. Our work with the global ACT Alliance, civil society across Europe, and civil society in regions facing the greatest inequalities remains central to these efforts.
We are grateful for the continued support and engagement of our members which is critical in advancing our shared vision for a just and equitable world.
